Currently, students can reduce the cost of studying in the US by applying for scholarships, or attending community colleges to transfer. go to college.
USA is the destination of more than 969,000 international students. In particular, according to the Annual Report of VietmyEDU and the Institute of International Education (IIE) in 2023, Vietnam ranks fifth worldwide in the number of students studying in the United States.
However, the cost of studying in the US is still one of the biggest barriers for many young Vietnamese who have a dream to study in the US. According to a survey by Vietnamese American Study Abroad, the average cost (including tuition, living expenses, meals and accommodation) to study in the year 2022 – 2023 in the US is from 14,000 to 70,000 USD, depending on the school and level of study.

VietmyEDU is a unit of many years of experience in consulting studying abroad and settling in the US, Mr. Nguyen Ba Lich – CEO of Viet My Study Abroad shared. Some ways to optimize the cost of studying in the US are as follows:
First, if students are confident about their academic performance, students can apply for scholarships from 20% to 100% from universities. In order to be awarded a scholarship, international students need to meet many basic requirements, such as a high GPA or high SAT/ACT test results.
Many schools in the US also consider extracurricular activities, personal essays, other talents, and interviews. Usually, successful international students who receive scholarships need to have good academic standing and contribute to the community.
Students can also optimize the cost of studying in the US by choosing a community college program and transferring to university. “The tuition fees at these schools are quite suitable with the finances of Vietnamese families,” Mr. Lich said.
Community colleges have dual programs that admit students over the age of 16 to high school and college at the same time. When you study, you only pay high fees for the last two years of university. This helps international students save about 50% of the cost, at least VND 600 million in the first two years of study. This is also a factor to minimize the level of financial proof when applying for a US student visa.
International students in the US can also do part-time jobs on campus. Students with F1 visas are allowed by the US Government to work on college and university campuses for a maximum of 20 hours per week. These jobs will pay $8 to $10 an hour, depending on the state.

To better understand about studying in the US, students can participate in domestic counseling programs. Here, you will meet representatives of schools, receive accurate and timely information about scholarships, financial support at the event!
